Customer was startup private cloud hosting business that outgrew its existing setup and needed to expand to a scalable, secure, and highly available setup.
Existing hardware was 2xDL380 with a DAS per server. Two new servers, a SAN, four switches and an additional router were scoped and purchased. The new equipment was racked, VLANs setup, Router hardened and configured for client VLANs, SAN LUN created and ESXi Setup. A vSphere server was created and all three servers added and tested, the standalone hosts were added to vsphere and networking upgraded to VDS beforeĀ being migrated to the SAN and vSphere cluster usingĀ vMotion for a zero downtime migration. Each client was then migrated to a private VLAN with a virtual router for security where a NAT was needed or added to the new DMZ. The old hosts were then added to the SAN, updated, and the added to the cluster.
